Today we decided on the games we would developing this year.
I am the project manager for the game “Going Home” Designed by Shannon. Team members: Bayley, Benedict, and Alex.
This semester I’m looking to strengthen my management skills as well as 3D skills; such as modelling, texturing and general workflow. “Going Home” is a 3D exploration game driven by narrative, which gives me an oppurtunity to learn more about 3D workflow in a studio environment.
I would also like to learn some music/sound on the side as an extra skill.
Each team member talked about what they felt they wanted to work on; which areas they were comfortable in and what they need to learn.
Benedict: Wants to learn more about shaders (Will need some time to learn this), happy with 3D environment art and texturing.
Bayley: Also want to learn more about shaders. Comfortable 3D modelling characters, as well as rigging and animating them.
Alex: Primarily 3D envrioment assets, wants to learn 3DS Max (which is easy to accomodate since the file can still be exported as an FBX.)
The first challenge will be trying to replicate the style in the GDD for “Going Home”. We have agreed on a small task to each create a small asset and try to make it look visually similar to the art bible in the GDD. We will then look at these models and see who has the closest style and use that workflow (with feedback of course!).
We will be asking the designer questions on friday to clear up anything that isn’t apparent in the GDD. These questions are on Trello so the list can be updated.
