Music theory recap

Its been a while since I had any music theory lessons. I used to play clarinet in both an orchestra, jazz band and as a solo artist. I dabbled with drums for a while and picked up the ukulele too. So I have a grounded theory of things like; Notes, Tempo and Scales.

Quick music theory

Notes/Recap

Tempo: how fast the song is, determined by the beats. Measured in BPM. For sheet music we have a time signature which shows the beats in a bar and how long the notes are in the bar.

Frequencies: notes have a pitch and duration. The pitch is measured in hertz. The same note can be played in different pitches = named an octave. There are 12 notes in an octave.

Notes: Notes, Flats, Sharps etc.

Scales:
Major: happy, C major is most popular (DoeRaeMe)
Major triad chords use the pattern 1-3-5
Minor: sad, off by one semitone

Another good video for a more in-depth music theory foundation.

Its generally good practice to pick a scale and work with that for both the chords and melody
