Music Research

During this project I would like to create some music for the game. I have a good foundation of music knowledge and the goal is to progress my digital skills to align with this.

I began by watching this youtube video which takes you through the software and creation of 4 different music tracks for a game.

In the video he talks about how you need to match the tone of the track to the character or mood within the scene.
Given that Aurora is a very innocent character who moves slowly I want to create a slow yet joyful track that incoorperates her personality. No harsh sounds and a very subtle beat would fit well.

Example of relaxed yet more joyful music that could depict an innocent character.

The actual envrionment itself is again very slow and deep under the sea. It will project a feeling of adventure and wonder yet allow the player to feel relaxed. I want the player to hear deeper and more alluring tones like the sounds of an oboe or clarinet.

Examples in the ‘Going Home’ GDD show ambient tracks that subtle incorperate ocean noises such as the waves crashing on the shore. The ambient noises in these examples almost create a beat for the melody, especially in this example:

An example track shown in the GDD.

Taking note of the music outlined in the GDD, Shannon mentions how the animal crossing soundtrack is very calming and “really slows her heartrate”. Taking insipiration from this I decided to do some research.

I began to look in more depth as to what type of chords animal crossing music uses. They are all mostly minor chords and there are a lot of sharp notes in there to add some flavour to the song.

Note: the main animal crossing song chords can be found here https://chordify.net/chords/animal-crossing-wild-world-theme-song-moronsparadice

I feel as if minor chords would work better for the reef/ocean music as it would create a more atmospheric style track.

Own Playlist On Spotify

Here is a Spotify playlist consisting of songs that I have picked which set the correct relaxed and uplifting tone for Going Home.
This will help me in understanding what instruments are used to set this tone and how they are played: Soft or Loud? Slow or Fast?
